Research Project: Snow Water Supply Forecasting

Location: Northwest Watershed Research Center

Project Number: 2052-13610-015-003-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 25, 2020
End Date: Oct 1, 2024

Objective:
Contribute to the development of new water supply modeling technology capable of simulating the effects of changing climatic conditions on the mountain snow water balance and usable by a variety of water supply managers across the western United States.

Approach:
The iSnobal model will be coupled with a semi-distributed hydrology model. Calibration procedures will then be developed for the resultant hydrology model to address ET, soil moisture, groundwater and testing various calibration methods applicable for the model complexity and computational resources. The model will be tested in the Tuolumne River Basin in California (TRB), and the Reynolds Creek Experimental Watershed in Idaho (RCEW) for a period of 5-10 years.
