Research Project: Creating Linux and WWW Versions of the VARROAPOP Program

Location: Carl Hayden Bee Research Center

Project Number: 2022-21000-022-017-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Feb 1, 2021
End Date: Jan 31, 2023

Objective:
1) Convert EPA version of VARROAPOP + Pesticides model to run on a Linux platform for EPA use. 2) Evaluate updates to resource and overwintering components in the model that are not available in current EPA version of VARROAPOP+ Pesticides. 3) Combine Linux and Windows code base to allow code deployment to either platform from a single set of source code. 4) Code a WWW-based version of VARROAPOP. 5) Participate in constructing the WWW site for WWW-based VARROAPOP.

Approach:
The BEEPOP/VARROAPOP model developed by Gloria DeGrandi-Hoffman and Robert Curry will be rewritten to run in Linux. The program also will be restructured to run on the Carl Hayden Bee Research Center WWW site. In addition to programming the model for use by EPA and on the WWW site, new front end menus will be designed and programmed for entering specific information for simulations.
