Research Project: Quantitative Trait Loci Mapping and Marker-Assisted Pyramiding For Flavor Enhancing Chemicals to Promote Cucumber Consumption and Industry Use

Location: Vegetable Crops Research

Project Number: 5090-21000-073-058-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jan 15, 2021
End Date: Jan 14, 2026

Objective:
There are two objectives in this project: QTL mapping and transcriptome profiling of fruit flavor-contributing volatile compounds in cucumber.

Approach:
1. Genetic basis of variation of flavor Develop mapping populations (F2:3) from crosses between high x low cucumber lines Approaches: 1.1 Conduct QTL mapping to identify QTL associated with high concentration of flavor enhancing phytochemicals. We will use genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS)and phenotypic data will be collected. 1.2 Conduct genome-wide association in natural populations to identify significant associated QTL with flavor enhancing phytochemicals 1.3. Identify biochemical pathways associated with target phytochemicals through transcriptome profiling (RNA-Seq).
