Research Project: Biological Control of Emerald Ash Borer in the State of Vermont

Location: Beneficial Insects Introduction Research Unit

Project Number: 8010-22000-031-058-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: May 1, 2022
End Date: May 1, 2027

Objective:
Develop dynamic models to evaluate the spread of emerald ash borer (EAB) and its biocontrol agents. This non-funded cooperative agreement will evaluate the spread and impact of the invasive EAB and introduced parasitoids for biological control.

Approach:
1. Develop the basic spatial and temporal models to describe the invasion process and spread of the emerald ash borer and introduced parasitoids in Vermont (the leading edge of invasion) as well as in other neighboring northeastern States. 2. Incorporate demographic attributes as well as climatic and host tree conditions into the basic model to study the effectiveness of introduced parasitoids in successful control of EAB, that allows surving ash to recover and regenerate to canopy trees.
