Research Project: Develop Molecular Diagnostic Tools to Determine Strain and Mating Status of Fruit Fly Incursions

Location: Tropical Pest Genetics and Molecular Biology Research Unit

Project Number: 2040-22430-028-021-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Mar 15, 2022
End Date: Dec 31, 2024

Objective:
Develop molecular diagnostic tools to determine strain and mating status of fruit fly incursions.

Approach:
1. Select candidate autosomal strain-specific and sex-linked markers. 2. Develop diagnostic assay discriminating males from females and GSS and wild. 3. Perform experimental crosses to validate diagnostic assay. 4. Develop methods to quantify mating of wild females to GSS males vs wild males.
