Objective:
To characterize the Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) resistance in breeding lines of winter and spring barley types through conventional and molecular approach at South Dakota State University and ensure it aligns with the Barley Coordinated Project and its research area of variety development and host resistance (VDHR) objectives 1 and 3.
Approach:
Development of superior winter and spring barley cultivars in the state of South Dakota can be achieved through field screening of scab resistance and qPCR-based quantification of relative fungal DNA of Fusarium graminearum.
