Project Number: 2032-12610-001-015-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Jun 1, 2022
End Date: Mar 31, 2026
Objective:
The California Wildfire and Forest Resilience Task Force (Task Force) was created to address the recent increase and expected continued threat of large and devastating wildfires that have put human life and property and ecosystem integrity at risk. The intent of the Task Force is to align the actives of federal, state, local, private and tribal organizations to support efforts tailored to the unique geographies and values across the state and to bring the best available science to forest management and community protection efforts. In support of the Task Force, the Science Advisory Panel (Panel) will ensure Task Force leadership, working groups, and regional planning efforts are informed by the best available science. The Panel co-chairs will convene a diverse body of federal, academic and state scientists who will help coordinate activities and produce and communicate science-based findings to the Task Force. The co-chairs will provide dedicated support to the operational function of Task Force organization and integration.
Approach:
The co-chairs will coordinate the Panel’s contributions and deliver its scientific advice and support to the Task Force. As outlined by the Task Force leadership, these contributions include: 1) science review and syntheses; 2) structured evaluation of new data products and tools; 3) coordination of technical exchange forums; 4) organization of workshops; and 5) science support of work groups and regional planning efforts. These contributions incorporate various action items assigned to the Panel as outlined in the Action Plan at https://wildfiretaskforce.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/californiawildfireandforestresilienceactionplan.pdf.
