Research Project: Regulation of Plant Infection and DON Biosynthesis in Fusarium graminearum

Location: Crop Production and Protection

Project Number: 0500-00053-005-157-G
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: May 1, 2022
End Date: Apr 30, 2025

Objective:
This study aims to further characterize the roles of GIV GPCRs. Objectives are: 1) Characterize the functional relationships among six GIV genes; 2) Screen for anther compounds stimulatory to Gpmk1 activation via Giv1; 3) Develop a yeast system to screen for anther compounds recognized by GIV GPCRs.

Approach:
The double-sextuple giv mutants will be generated and characterized. Besides assaying Gpmk1 phosphorylation, FST12-GFP and TRI5 will be used as reporters to screen for compounds recognized by GIV1. Yeast strains expressing the chimeric GIV-Ste2 allele will be generated and assayed for the effects of anther extract on reporter genes.
