Research Project: Impact of Wood-infecting Fungi on Horticultural Crops

Location: Crops Pathology and Genetics Research

Project Number: 2032-21220-008-052-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 1, 2022
End Date: Aug 31, 2024

Objective:
1. Develop an infection assay for Armillaria root disease on almond rootstocks. 2. Screen Prunus germplasm for new sources of resistance.

Approach:
An infection assay will be adapted from grape for almond rootstocks grown in tissue-culture medium. With different propagation requirements for different rootstocks, a sterile growth chamber and tissue-culture room is needed. Also, with different growth rates among rootstocks, assays will need to be carried out with similar controls in place, so data from different assays can be combined and analyzed statistically.
