Research Project: Genomics for Improved Soybean Seed Composition

Location: Plant Genetics Research

Project Number: 5070-21000-044-013-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2022
End Date: Aug 31, 2025

Objective:
Identify soybean germplasm with the narrowest defined genetic recombination around target genes for soybean seed composition traits.

Approach:
Select soybean germplasm with the ARS/MU high oleic acid oil trait as well as a subset of the low linolenic acid oil trait, the high energy trait, lipoxygenase null trait, high protein trait, altered saponin profile trait, aromatic trait; conduct whole genome resequencing (WGS) from each soybean germplasm line including recurrent parents, when available. Develop bioinformatics tools to analyze the recombination events from the WGS data. Identify the germplasm with the narrowest targeted introgressions and germplasm that captured the maximum recurrent parent genome in general.
