Research Project: Sequencing, Mapping, and Analysis of Maize Genomes and Variant Data Important to Maize Breeding Programs

Location: Corn Insects and Crop Genetics Research

Project Number: 5030-21000-072-013-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2022
End Date: Aug 31, 2024

Objective:
To sequence and analyze two maize genomes important to maize breeding programs and complete large-scale mapping of whole-genome sequences of domesticated maize and its wild relatives as a resource for maize researchers and breeders.

Approach:
The high-quality sequence assembly of these two important maize cultivars along with their gene model annotations will be made available to the maize community through MaizeGDB via downloads, browser tracks on JBrowse, and BLAST targets. The mapped whole-genome sequence data representing a wide diversity of maize and maize relatives will be offered to the maize community through MaizeGDB as downloads and potentially other formats. Together, these data will provide important trait and breeding information for MaizeGDB stakeholders.
