Research Project: Characterization of Lipid Turnover in Soybeans Over Development

Location: Plant Genetics Research

Project Number: 5070-21000-045-007-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 16, 2022
End Date: Sep 15, 2024

Objective:
1) In-depth analysis of molecular phenotype of altered seeds. 2) Establish a method to quantify short chain acyl-CoAs. 3) Quantify lipid dynamics in seeds.

Approach:
In the proposed collaboration we will develop methods to enable studies on lipid production and turnover in seeds. Methods to quantify acyl-CoAs specifically will be pursued. The methods will allow the quantitative evaluation of lipid turnover in seeds and other plant tissues when subject to stress such as altered climate conditions, but also to study the unanticipated or adverse impact of transgenic modifications in central metabolism on seed lipid production. State-of-the-art tools including mass spectrometry needed to perform the work is available at the collaborator's facilities along with relevant expertise necessary to run the instruments.
