Location: Animal Disease Research Unit
Project Number: 2090-32000-040-032-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 1, 2022
End Date: May 31, 2027
Objective:
There have been ongoing efforts to develop methods to prevent the spread of infectious diseases to naive animals. Diagnostic assays and vaccine development have been valuable tools to prevent disease outbreaks. However, currently, improvement of diagnostic tools and identification of targets are necessary to provide efficient methods to control disease transmission. Many studies have attempted to identify other targets that might improve diagnostic assays or provide more consistently effective protection against infectious diseases of livestock. The objective of this project is to identify targets that allow the development of accurate diagnostic tests and effective vaccines to prevent pathogen dissemination.
Approach:
We will identify targets and expressed full-length proteins for use in the improvement of diagnostic tests and vaccine development. Field samples will be used to assess the accuracy of the assays. Animals will be immunized with new targets and challenged to test vaccine efficacy.
