Research Project: Seasonal Forecasting Infrastructure Development

Location: Northwest Watershed Research Center

Project Number: 2052-21500-001-005-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2022
End Date: Sep 1, 2025

Objective:
Develop a database infrastructure to provide seasonal climate hindcasts from current North American Multi-Model Ensemble (NMME) forecast models for gridMET climate nodes in the conterminous United States.

Approach:
Develop a procedure and infrastructure for assessing seasonal forecast skill of all individual and aggregate model formulations of all current North American Multi-Model Ensemble (NMME) models. This procedure would involve creating a national coarse-resolution hindcast database for current NMME models; developing and transferring procedures to ARS for downscaling NMME forecasts; developing a forecast-skill database; and creating a web-based interface for accessing skillful aggregate NMME model formulations for diverse agricultural and natural resource model applications.
