Research Project: Organic Soil Treatment Methods for Nematode Control in California Carrots

Location: Citrus and Other Subtropical Products Research

Project Number: 6034-22000-046-013-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2022
End Date: Aug 31, 2027

Objective:
The objective of this research project is to develop and implement non-fumigant approaches for management of nematodes and other pathogens in California carrot production.

Approach:
Collaborative research studies consisting of replicated field trials and grower demonstration plots will be established to determine the impacts of organic amendment-based treatments, such as anaerobic soil disinfestation (ASD) and biosolarization for control of root-knot nematodes. Treatments, including biologically-based disinfestation practices and host resistance. Data on treatment establishment characteristics, soil quality parameters of site locations, and levels of redox potential and crop nutrition will be assessed.
