Location: Sustainable Agricultural Water Systems Research
Project Number: 2032-12610-002-015-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement
Start Date: Aug 16, 2021
End Date: Dec 30, 2023
Objective:
Climate change is contributing to massive, high-severity fires throughout the west resulting in the loss of forested lands and the ecosystem services they provide. Given the expectation that the occurrence of extreme drought and fire conditions will continue to challenge management of forested lands across jurisdictions, more guidance and support is needed to discuss options and strategies for future reforestation efforts that are climate-ready. Current guidance exists at both the landscape and site-scale that account for ecologically-based objectives, but reforestation objectives differ depending on land ownership and regional-scale influences. The emphasis, need and expertise to develop and deliver this workshop are perfectly met by the California Climate Hub.
Approach:
During the next calendar year the California Climate Hub with work in partnership with United States Forestry Service (USFS) Pacific Southwest (PSW) Research Station to develop and facilitate a workshop to address climate-ready reforestation solutions based on different management objectives.
