Research Project: Characterizing the Major Histocompatibility Complexes of U.S. Based Domestic Goats

Location: Animal Disease Research

Project Number: 2090-32000-046-007-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 1, 2023
End Date: Apr 30, 2025

Objective:
Train a postdoctoral fellow and characterize the major histocompatability complex (MHC) of common United States breeds of domestic goats.

Approach:
Cooperator is going to mentor a postdoctoral fellow through received funds. To characterize the major histocompatability complex (MHC) of domestic goats the cooperator will assist in sequencing the DNA associated with housing MHC alleles on chromosome 23. Further, expression of coded MHC alleles will be assessed by sequencing of messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) from blood isolated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs).
