Objective:
The objective of this project is for the cooperator to visit the ARS lab to carry out gene editing and transformation experiments on legumes, specifically lentils. The gene targets in lentils align with the ARS PI project plan targets of other legumes, and the research output will compliment the ARS PI's project plan objectives.
Approach:
The USDA ARS PI and cooperator will identify candidate genes associated with root-related and improved nutrient uptake traits in lentils, construct gene editing reagents to disrupt or alter candidate gene function, and deliver gene editing reagent into the lentil plant to generate stable edited plants.
