Objective:
The objective of this project will be to develop an image-based growth, development, and freezing damage assessment protocols for brassica species in both greenhouse and field conditions.
Approach:
Utilize equipment resources and expertise provided by the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering to perfect collection of multispectral imagery of brassica species before and after acclimation, deacclimation, and freezing/recovery from the field and greenhouse.
1) Grow wild type and VIP3 mutant arabidopsis lines in pots under greenhouse conditions. Collect multispectral images of pots three weeks after planting, three weeks after acclimation, 3 days after deacclimation and 7 days after freezing.
2) Grow camelina genotypes that differ in freezing tolerance and flowering time in the greenhouse and collect multispectral images at 21 days after planting, 6 weeks after vernalization, and then roots and plant tops 10 and 40 days immediately prior to (just tops) and after freezing and three days of recovery.
3) Grow canola in pots under field conditions and collect multispectral images of pots in the field and after returning the pots to the greenhouse at five time points (Dec 1, Feb 1, Mar 1, April 1, and May 1).
