Objective:
The overall objective of the research supported by this agreement is to increase access of metabolomics technologies to the greater research community. This will include the development and expansion of metabolomics techniques, providing technical training in metabolomic sample and data analysis to the research community, funding and support of competitive demonstration projects, and providing a regional resource service center to support metabolomics research efforts in institutions unable to independently develop such resources.
Approach:
To accomplish the objective, the Cooperator has established an organized research environment in the area of metabolomics which assembles analytical and computational expertise from across the location. The research is currently organized with an Administrative Core, a Central Services Core, and a series of remote Advanced Research Labs. The Administrative Core organizes training courses in metabolomics and and provides administrative support for remote service labs for efforts associated with the West Coast Metaboloimcs Center. The various Research Laboratories develop and validate novel expansions to the local metabolomic toolkit, validate their utility in collaborative demonstration projects of their choosing, and ultimately transfer robust assays into the Central Services Core, expanding the research community's access to metabolomics data.
