Research Project: Mobilizing Innovation in Biotechnology, Genetics, and Genomics to Mitigate Climate Change and to Transform Crops into Better Foods, Biobased Products, and Biofuels

Location: National Programs

Project Number: 0500-00116-001-000-D
Project Type: In-House Appropriated

Start Date: Apr 24, 2023
End Date: May 10, 2024

Objective:
Objective 1. Develop and utilize new biotechnology, genetic and genomic strateies to mitigate greenhouse gas production including nitrous oxide resulting from crop production. Objective 2. Develop and utilize new biotechnology, genetic, and genomic strategies to strengthen and accelerate crop adaptation to increasing weather extremes including heat, drought, cold, and floods. Objective 3. Investigate and develop biotechnologies that lead to commercially viable production of plant-based renewable biofuels, bioproducts, and biopolymers using renewable non-food biomass and food waste processing byproduct stream resources.

Approach:
Funding will be distributed to ARS locations to support the research objectives.
