Research Project: Citrus Research and Field Trials (CRAFT) Demonstrations

Location: Sustainable Agricultural Systems Laboratory

Project Number: 8042-22000-167-092-T
Project Type: Trust Fund Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2023
End Date: Sep 30, 2028

Objective:
The overarching goal of this project is to develop best management strategies for mitigating disease in citrus production. Specifically, the Citrus Research and Field Trials Foundation program is conducting large-scale field trials to evaluate newly developed or identified treatments and cultural practices that will promote increased production of citrus through new plantings or existing trees that successfully produce fruit in an Huanglongbing disease environment. The primary goal of the collaboration between USDA ARS and CRAFT is to create an automated data collection pipeline that facilitates easy-access, searchable, databases and visualization platform.

Approach:
The ESRI-based database and visualization platform will be maintained for a year so the users don't experience downtime. The existing data from ESRI's Spatial Database Engine will be imported into a new Postgres database and do any data cleaning needed at that time. An API will be implemented for fetching and updating the data from the database. A new data visualization and dashboard platform will be created. Finally, the form infrastructure will be constructed to add new users and/or data to the database.
