Location: Zoonotic and Emerging Disease Research

Project Number: 3022-32000-027-016-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Mar 15, 2024
End Date: Mar 14, 2025

Objective:
In 2024, in support of the Agricultural Research Service’s (ARS) mission and the Animal Plant and Health Inspection Service’s (APHIS) One Health mission, ARS and APHIS will partner together to host the Emerging Zoonotic Coronavirus Gap Analysis Workshop. The workshop aims to bring together approximately 200 global experts in bio surveillance, diagnostics, countermeasures, virology, pathogenesis, immunology, epi, and vaccinology who will leverage the findings of the RLA literature review and build upon the results of the Belfast Symposium. The three-day workshop event will take place in Washington, DC in late July - early October 2024 with dates to be determined in partnership with and approved by ARS.

Approach:
The three-day workshop event will take place in Washington, DC in late July - early October 2024 with dates to be determined in partnership with and approved by ARS. Following the gap analysis workshop, a final gap analysis report on emerging coronaviruses will be developed, reviewed and distributed to relevant audiences. Further, the report will serve as the foundation for identifying priority areas and developing action plans for experts (approximately 3) to address and act on through consultancies or fellowships in the months following the event. The specific scope of the activities and action to be taken following the event and the release of the report will be determined by the ARS.
