Research Project: Development of a Survey Course for Chemometrics and Data Handling for Analysts

Location: Methods and Application of Food Composition Laboratory

Project Number: 8040-10700-003-008-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 15, 2023
End Date: Jun 30, 2025

Objective:
Develop a one day course for researchers to provide a general overview and application of chemometric and machine learning methods to data processing. The course will cover experimental design, metadata collection, unsupervised and supervised machine learning, neural nets, deep learning, and analysis of variance. These methods are the necessary tools for interpretation of complex experimental data.

Approach:
Provide researchers (non-chemometricians and statisticians) with an overview of the chemometric and machine learning tools that are available for processing complex experimental data. The course will define terms in the artificial intelligence field, a general descriptions of machine learning tools, and examples of application of the tools to chromatographic and spectral data and to assorted non-analytical data sets.
