Research Project: Geospatial Analysis and Modeling of Agrohydrological Variability in the Water-limited Great Plains

Location: Water Management and Systems Research

Project Number: 3012-13660-010-026-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 15, 2023
End Date: Dec 30, 2025

Objective:
The long-term goal of this cooperative research project between USDA-ARS and Cooperator is to improve understanding of the broad effects of geospatial hydrological variability on agricultural production in the semi-arid Great Plains. Specifically, our objective is to inform precision agriculture (water and nutrient management in crop systems) and precision conservation within fields, across farms, and at regional watershed scales, using high-resolution process modeling and machine learning.

Approach:
The Cooperator and USDA-ARS scientists will work closely together to design research, collect and analyze geospatial hydrological data, and conduct modeling studies to better understand hydrological variability and impacts on crop production in semi-arid Great Plains agricultural systems.
