Location: Plant Physiology and Genetics Research
Project Number: 2020-21410-008-005-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 1, 2023
End Date: Jan 30, 2026
Objective:
The objective of the agreement is to establish protocols for efficient and cost-effective brassica double haploid (DH) production to generate DH breeding lines to advance developed segregating populations.
Approach:
The cooperator lab is expert in setting up, optimizing double haploid protocols and techniques and developing advance breeding lines of oilseeds. Developing a rapid and efficient system to produce homozygous lines derived from crosses in short time will accelerate genetic improvement cycles and research. The ARS scientist developed F1 seeds from crossing high diverse brassica parents. The F1 seeds will be sent to the collaborator to develop double haploid lines using isolated microspore culture from F1 flowers. Doubled haploid seeds will be sent back to ARS cooperator. The resulting doubled haploids will be used for breeding and/or genetic analysis.
