Research Project: Developing Detection and Modeling Tools for the Geospatial and Environmental Epidemiology of Animal Disease

Location: Geospatial and Environmental Epidemiology Research Unit

Project Number: 6064-32000-001-005-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2023
End Date: Aug 31, 2028

Objective:
To enhance ARS research in plant and animal epidemiology by funding the cooperator to operate conduct research realted to the detection tracking and prediction of animal disease.

Approach:
The agreement will fund the Cooperator to work on project-relevant geospatial science, epidemiology, and disease ecology, related to animal disease. The cooperative research will develop new methods in metagenomic surveillance, disease detection and mapping. The cooperator will work on the monitoring and detection of bovine anaplasmosis, antibiotic resistance, American foulbrood, Varroa infections in honey bees, chronic waisting disease, sensor-based detection of farmed fish diseases, the detection of avian colibacillosis, mycoplasmosis, and clostridial diseases, bovine coronavirus and bovine respiratory disease complex, mosquito vector borne disease in cattle feedlots, and the spread of leptospira and mycobacterium at the land water interface.
