Research Project: Genomic and Informatic Development for Genetic and Phenotypic Analysis

Location: Genomics and Bioinformatics Research

Project Number: 6066-21310-006-027-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 25, 2023
End Date: Sep 24, 2028

Objective:
Develop software to assist genomic analysis with applications to plant and animal genetics. The main emphasis will be on developing pangenomic tools and phenotyping environments to gain a greater understanding of the genetics of assorted agronomic traits. Pollinator genomic experiments will also be initiated. Additional projects in service of these objectives will potentially involve routine bioinformatic analysis and user-interface development.

Approach:
The following approaches will serve to address the objective described above: 1. Extend annotation tools in a pangenomic, graph-based paradigm 2. Develop and manage genetic experiments in controlled environments. 3. Examine mutation mechanics and genotyping methods in polyploid crops. 4. Assist in RNA-seq, genome assembly, genotyping, and genetic analysis. 5. Develop front-end tools to make these softwares more useful to the community at large. 6. Develop and implement sequencing-based pollinator studies.
