Research Project: Specimen management portal for U.S. National Fungus Collections

Location: Mycology and Nematology Genetic Diversity and Biology Laboratory

Project Number: 8042-22000-323-010-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 25, 2023
End Date: Aug 24, 2028

Objective:
The objectives of the project are to develop a suitable, customized Symbiota portal and tools for querying the ARS fungal biodiversity data, including but not limited to the USDA-ARS U.S. National Fungus Collections (BPI) and related digitized resources and data associations.

Approach:
The ARS PI will develop, enter and identify the data that are needed to make the Collections data complete and fully searchable. The ARS investigator will provide the data to the Cooperator for modification of the search fields and data entry fields. The project will focus on developing new capabilities within the Symbiota portal to: 1) Develop full fungal taxonomic hierarchies for specimens; and 2) Develop new tools for host-associations and one-to-many relationships.
