Research Project: Treatment Durability using LANDIS-II

Location: Great Basin Rangelands Research

Project Number: 2060-21500-001-021-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2023
End Date: Nov 30, 2026

Objective:
Objective 1: Improve understanding of vegetation change and fuel accumulation following mechanical and prescribed fire fuel treatments across a gradient of site characteristics in sagebrush ecosystems. Objective 2: Predict how fuel treatments affect long-term vegetation trajectories and fire behavior in sagebrush ecosystems under climate change. Objective 3. Incorporate combustion data, potential fire behavior, and landscape change modeling to estimate retreatment intervals under a changing climate.

Approach:
We will accomplish this by: 1) Providing scientific data and analyses to the land management community. 2) Providing reports that will allow managers to understand how fuel treatments affect long-term vegetation trajectories and fire behavior in sagebrush ecosystems. 3) Providing outreach materials for stakeholders to interpret scientific results regarding treatment durability and retreatment intervals in current and future climates.
