Location: Crop Diseases, Pests and Genetics Research
Project Number: 2034-21220-008-007-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Nov 1, 2023
End Date: Jul 31, 2025
Objective:
1. Employ marker assisted breeding to develop improved raisin grape varieties with disease resistance, early ripening, and commercial fruit quuality. 2. Develop breeding populations and identify potential markers for naturally dry-on-vine (NDOV) and fruit shattering traits. 3. Provide samples of advanced raisin grape selections for sensory evaluations.
Approach:
Data on fruit traits such as berry color, field berry weight, seed trace, disease resistance, and presence of the dry-on-the-vine trait will be obtained through field and laboratory examinations to identify accessions with superior quality. Seeds from selected plants will be germinated and seedlings will be used for development of markers using phenotyping and genotyping techniques. Samples of advanced raisin grape selections will be provided for sensory evaluations by the Raisin Administrative Committee.
