Research Project: Human Dietary Interventions to Reduce Risk of Chronic Diseases

Location: Food Components and Health Laboratory

Project Number: 8040-10700-002-001-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 1, 2024
End Date: Jul 31, 2028

Objective:
Diet is a modifiable risk factor for several chronic diseases. These diseases, such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, have a signficant negative impact on quality of life and economic loss. The objective of this collaboration is to collect information on food intake, design nutrition studies, prepare protocols for human studies, and conduct dietary and lifestyle interventions in research studies.

Approach:
Dietary intervention studies provide data necessary for science-based dietary guidance. In order to provide such data to Federal and non-Federal organizations who develop nutrition policies, dietary interventions studies will be conducted to determine the role of specific foods, food components, and dietary patterns and how they impact risk for chronic, non-communicable diseases.
