Research Project: 3.0624.01 FY24 Developing molecular diagnostic tools to determine strain and mating status of fruit fly incursions year 3

Location: Tropical Pest Genetics and Molecular Biology Research Unit

Project Number: 2040-22430-028-039-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 30, 2024
End Date: Sep 29, 2025

Objective:
Develop molecular diagnostic tools and standard operating procedure to determine strain and mating status of fruit fly incursions.

Approach:
1. Select candidate autosomal strain-specific and sex-linked markers. 2. Develop diagnostic assay discriminating males from females and GSS and wild. 3. Perform experimental crosses to validate diagnostic assay. 4. Compose standard operating procedure for determining mating status to be transferred to regulatory partners.
