Research Project: Improving Irrigated Crop Production in Southeast Missouri

Location: Cropping Systems and Water Quality Research

Project Number: 5070-13610-009-003-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 15, 2024
End Date: Aug 14, 2025

Objective:
Evaluate irrigated crop production and irrigation management in southeast Missouri.

Approach:
Scientists from ARS and Cooperator will conduct crop production research in southeast Missouri relating to irrigated crop production and irrigation management. This research will include studies on agricultural experiment stations as well as on cooperator's farms. Agronomic studies will be conducted for a range of Mid-south crops, including rice, cotton, corn, soybean, peanut, and wheat. Development and irrigation functions will be defined for cotton; optimal management zones will be determined for variable rate irrigation; and improved methods will be developed for remotely monitoring crops.
