Research Project: Expanding Precision-guided Sterile Insect Technique (pg-SIT) to Tick Species

Location: Livestock Arthropod Pest Research Unit

Project Number: 3094-32000-044-008-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2023
End Date: Jun 29, 2025

Objective:
The overarching goal of this project is to develop the precision-guided sterile insect technique (pg-SIT) technology to target tick populations that are of concern to livestock production.

Approach:
Microinjection techniques will be developed and optimized for use in tick species, and various genetic constructs will be designed, produced, and delivered to a model tick species to assess feasibility of developing strains in support of pg-SIT.
