Approach:
Maintenance of clean materials: The North Carolina center will maintain each of the 160 accessions that currently houses in tissue culture. About 100 of these accessions are currently maintained in the screenhouse/mother house as G1 foundation material. Screenhouse and mother house are maintained pest/disease free through regular scouting and chemical sprays as needed. Testing G1 foundation: Retesting of clean stock is a designated activity that occurs every 2-3 years depending on the crop. Also, test for all the viruses that have been recently discovered by PCR protocols described in peer-reviewed publications.
