Objective:
Breed hazelnuts resistant to eastern filbert blight (EFB). Inoculate plants and identify sources of resistance. Develop and score DNA markers. Combine EFB resistance with high yield and nut quality.
Approach:
Make controlled pollinations, grow seedlings, evaluate further in replicated trials. Inoculate in greenhouse or under structure. Develop DNA markers from genome sequences. Use standard procedures for horticultural trait evaluation.
