Research Project: Climate Adaptation Strategies for Irrigated Crop Production in the Missouri Delta

Location: Cropping Systems and Water Quality Research

Project Number: 5070-21600-001-010-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 1, 2024
End Date: Oct 31, 2025

Objective:
An existing experiment led by a cooperator in Portageville, MO, will be advanced through additional expertise from the Cooperator. The research objective is to identify cropping systems that are more productive and sustainable than current systems in the area and more appropriate for future climate. This will be achieved by researching monoculture and intensified, diversified rotational cropping systems.

Approach:
Scientists from Agency and Cooperator will conduct crop production research in Southeast Missouri relating to adaptation strategies for irrigated agriculture with development of climate smart recommendations. Findings will be developed for the southern Midwest and Midsouth regions and will be published in refereed journal articles, farm magazines, and presented to farmers. Specifically, the Cooperator's postdoctoral associate will further analysis and interpretation of multiple years of data.
