Research Project: Defining Protection Correlates, Vaccines, and Diagnostic Tools for Babesiosis, Theleriosis, Anaplasmosis, Prion and Other Chronic Diseases

Location: Animal Disease Research

Project Number: 2090-32000-042-006-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 1, 2024
End Date: Jun 26, 2028

Objective:
Discovery of novel methods to improve diagnostic tools and vaccine development are necessary for efficient control of infectious diseases of animals. The objective of this project is to defining protection correlates, control measures and advanced diagnostic tools for Babesiosis, Theleriosis, Anaplasmosis and other chronic diseases in animals.

Approach:
The approach is to characterize protective immune responses useful for the development of accurate diagnostic tests and effective vaccines. In this project, characterization of immune responses will facilitate development of control strategies for livestock pathogens. Defining the protective antibody and T-cell responses in animals will allow us to elucidate the immune correlates of protection for use in vaccine design.
