Research Project: Improving Our Understanding of the Impact of Management on Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Major Northeast and Great Lakes States Crops

Location: Sustainable Agricultural Systems Laboratory

Project Number: 8042-21600-002-004-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Apr 15, 2024
End Date: Aug 31, 2031

Objective:
Contribute to the Inflation Reduction Act Measurement Monitoring Reporting and Verification Action Area 2-Cropland through measurement of cropland methane and nitrous oxide emissions.

Approach:
Collect emissions data from major Northeast and Great Lakes states cropping systems including corn, soybean, wheat and forages. Measurements will be made at the plot scale using a variety of methods including, but not limited to, static vented chambers, and automated chambers. Management that will be investigated includes crop rotation diversity, cover crop management intensity, tillage, residue management, and fertilizer management.
