Research Project: Agricultural Spray Drones to Safely and Effectively Improve Productivity, Sustainability, and Precision Application for Growers

Location: Soil Dynamics Research

Project Number: 6010-21600-002-009-A
Project Type: Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Aug 15, 2024
End Date: Aug 14, 2028

Objective:
The goal is to develop and evaluate UAV technology to improve the production efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of precision pesticide applications.

Approach:
This project will develop and evaluate new spray drone technology to improve the production efficiency. Evaluation will be conducted in a variety of settings including evaluation and crop production in field studies. The evaluation will include new spray drone uses in a variety of settings to reduce production costs as well as monitoring environmental conditions to enhance system sustainability, such as soil moisture and ground cover status for water runoff and soil erosion forecasting and mitigation. Data collected in these studies will be used to develop strategies and methods for drone and UAV data processing and management, so producers know how to personalize drones for individual operations.
