Research Project: Breeding to Improve Yield and FHB Resistance in Wheat

Location: Crop Production and Protection

Project Number: 0500-00053-005-167-G
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: May 1, 2024
End Date: Apr 30, 2026

Objective:
1- Breeding crosses involving high yielding and FHB moderately resistant germplasm 2- Develop and test soft red winter wheat germplasm for grain yield. 3- Test for FHB resistance by using misted nursery.

Approach:
We make 100-200 crosses/year with FHB moderately-resistant parents from P/NUWWSN. F2:F4 populations will be in the field, F5 will be head-row, evaluated for crop stand, foliar diseases, and total population of heads by visual scoring. We do multi-location tests for yield and do FHB testing under misted irrigation system.
