Research Project: Mapping Genes Causing FHB Variation For Targeting

Location: Crop Production and Protection

Project Number: 0500-00053-005-172-G
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: May 1, 2024
End Date: Apr 30, 2026

Objective:
1. Measure aggressiveness and amount of DON produced for 150 Fg isolates from the NA1 population, for the purpose of performing genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of these traits. 2. Expand the set of genetic markers segregating in this sample and available for GWAS analysis.

Approach:
We will perform additional years of greenhouse head inoculation experiments on susceptible and resistant wheat to refine our phenotyping of the Fg isolates used in our FY22 USWBSI project. We will prepare barcoded DNA libraries with an inexpensive and high-throughput protocol and then perform whole genome sequencing of pooled libraries.
