Research Project: Interagency Cooperation to Support USDA-ARS Digital/Geospatial Solutions

Location: Agroecosystem Management Research

Project Number: 3042-21660-001-013-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement

Start Date: Jul 15, 2024
End Date: Sep 30, 2025

Objective:
USDA-ARS's Partnerships for Data Innovations (PDI) has had a long-term relationship with OCIO-EGMO and ESRI. PDI has an Esri Enterprise level software platform hosted on the Microsoft Azure commercial cloud computing platform in support of USDA-ARS research scientists and staff. The objectives of this collaboration is to provide geospatial support services to USDA-ARS through our partnerships with OCIO-EGMO and ESRI by developing various digital/geospatial data tools and applications.

Approach:
The current approach is to provide an array of digital/geospatial data applications after co-identifying data solution needs by OCIO-EGMO and USDA-ARS. PDI is the USDA-ARS data solutions provider liaising with OCIO-EGMO and contracting with ESRI to develop data applications and tools. Current projects under development include an ARS Fleet Management System and Image Processing Platform for unmanned aerial/ground vehicle imagery and an USDA-ARS Knowledge platform to provide an agency-wide data system to serve out and ingest research and contributed data. Additional applications/tools will be identified annually for development.
