Research Project: Management of Soilborne Pathogens in Strawberry Production

Location: Crop Improvement and Protection Research

Project Number: 2038-22000-019-062-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2024
End Date: Dec 1, 2025

Objective:
ARS research projects are in progress to improve management of soilborne diseases constraining strawberry production. One location where this research is conducted in the ARS research farm in Salinas, CA and to make sure the results are relevant to the industry it is imperative that a commercial grower manages the crop. Establishing a formal relationship with a new collaborating commercial grower so we can continue our strawberry trials is the objective of this agreement.

Approach:
The cooperating commercial strawberry grower will manage a commercial planting of strawberry on the ARS research farm, which will contain our research plots investigating the effects of variable fumigation rates on disease management, plant health and yield. The grower will provide the harvesting crews and manage the plots exactly like a commercial field.
