Research Project: Determining root biomass diversity for better carbon sequestration (Year 1 of 3)

Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research

Project Number: 6070-21220-070-067-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Oct 1, 2024
End Date: Sep 30, 2025

Objective:
Evaluate genetic diversity in belowground carbon and nitrogen sequestration in the field and its relationship with resource partitioning to seeds.

Approach:
Diverse soybean genotypes will be planted in the field in replicate. Aboveground biomass and nitrogen content will be measured and belowground biomass will be estimated using soil sampling and previously developed algorithms. The environmental plasticity in these parameters will be evaluated.
