Research Project: Combining New Cover Crop Species and Management Strategies to Reduce Deer Pressure in Seedling Cotton

Location: Coastal Plain Soil, Water and Plant Conservation Research

Project Number: 6082-30100-001-025-R
Project Type: Reimbursable Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jan 1, 2025
End Date: Dec 31, 2025

Objective:
Evaluate the efficacy of using cover crops that produce unpalatable secondary metabolites to deter wild deer pressure and feeding on seedling cotton plants.

Approach:
We will use a multi-disciplinary approach comprising population assessments, biomass accumulation, plant morphology evaluations, soil fertility and moisture changes, lint yields, and statistics.
