Research Project: Evaluation of Sorghum Bioactive Compounds as Anti-bacterial Agents in Legionella and Listeria Infections

Location: Grain Quality and Structure Research

Project Number: 3020-43440-002-006-S
Project Type: Non-Assistance Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 1, 2019
End Date: Aug 31, 2023

Objective:
The objective of this agreement is to study the effects of sorghum bioactive compounds on bacterial replication within established and primary mouse monocytes.

Approach:
Cooperator will test the replication of Legionella pneumophila and Listeria monocytogenes in both established macrophage cell line and primary monocyte cell line while being co-treated with sorghum extracts. In addition, cooperator will test the cytokine expression levels of during infection in the presence and absence of sorghum extracts.
