Location: Watershed Physical Processes Research
Project Number: 6060-13000-029-015-I
Project Type: Interagency Reimbursable Agreement
Start Date: Apr 13, 2021
End Date: Sep 30, 2025
Objective:
Assess the impact of management strategies and practices on nutrient transport and delivery into water resources at multiple scales of the Lower Mississippi River Basin.
Approach:
Studies will be developed to assess water and conservation management strategies to reduce N losses in agricultural watersheds through observations and evaluations from experimental studies, technologies and tools. Research areas are established in the Mississippi Delta in the Lower Mississippi River Basin to quantify the contribution of various conservation practices toward sustaining water quality in irrigated agricultural row crop systems. Potential treatments include combinations of conservation tillage and cover crop production systems. Research areas are either large plot or field scale and are instrumented to collect runoff from the drainage area. Runoff samples will be analyzed for nutrients and sediment.
