Research Project: Elements: Agricultural Cyber-infrastructure Support for Field and Grid Modeling, and Runtime Decision-making

Location: Agroecosystems Management Research

Project Number: 5030-13000-012-004-N
Project Type: Non-Funded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: May 16, 2020
End Date: May 15, 2023

Objective:
Develop an integrated cloud-based agriculture cyber-infrastructure for various stakeholders: farmers, ag industries, policy makers, and researchers, and validate using field-data.

Approach:
Software tools for data-integration/assimilation (of soil/crop/weather), modeling/simulation/visualization, and socioeconomics/decision-support will be developed in contemporary programming language, relying on object-oriented paradigm, and cloud-based services. To help field-validate the decision support system, sensors and other equipment will be installed at ARS managed field sites near Ames, Iowa and data will be collected for agricultural model testing and calibration.
